The Connecting Line_________

The Connecting Line_________

There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven”. Ecclesiastes 3 v 1 (NIV).

Each year we all stop and celebrate another birthday. Often we make resolutions, changes or plans across many areas in our life for the year ahead. Nothing we do alters the fact that there are only two dates on our gravestone, a date of birth and a date of death. They are connected by a short line. That short line is known as life! What happens between your date of birth and your date of death is actually what your life is all about.

You don’t have any control over those two dates in your life, but you do have control over your life in between them. You have control over where it eventually leads – to eternity in heaven or the city of death. People may not remember when your life started or ended, but they will remember the life you lived in between them.

So, what are you doing with your life? Are you living a life that is worthy of imitation? Are you creating of memories in the hearts of others? Do your fingerprints bring hope and joy to other people’s lives? Are you leaving footprints for others to follow that will lead them to God? Are you impacting lives for Jesus? Are you making more time for silence in your life, so God doesn’t have to compete in all that noise in and around you? Then people will not just remember you with compassion or talk about all the things you accomplished, but GOD will also know you really well!

Recently I celebrated my birthday and decided that I want to live this year ahead of me at ‘today’s speed’ – one day at a time for a full 365 days. (I reckon that will be just about fast enough in this high pressured world). But I’m making some changes, because I absolutely need to allow God to get to know more of me every single day. I do not want to sit and reflect in a year’s time when another birthday comes around, that I hadn’t done that enough. I want God to know me better!

If we hear HIM on HIS terms each day of the year, and not on our own, then ‘real life’ will start on the other side of the second date on the gravestone!
