Jesus is Risen!
Did you know that one of the basic understandings of the Christian faith is that there will be a resurrection of those who die (all of us) (Hebrews 6:3) and then we will face a judgment (Hebrews 9:27)?
Today we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus. We celebrate Jesus’ resurrection for many reasons and here are just a few:
- Jesus’ prophecies were true – on two occasions Jesus predicted his death and his resurrection (Luke 9:22; 13:32-33; 18:33) = We can trust what Jesus has taught us.
- Jesus’ death was accepted by God – By raising Jesus from the dead, God was essentially expressing his satisfaction in Jesus’ death as a sacrifice for our sins = If we follow Jesus our sins have been paid for and we will be judged as if we were sinless!
- Death was not the end for Jesus – Jesus’ resurrection means there is life after death = We can have hope for a life after death
- Jesus’ resurrection demonstrates God’s power – By raising Jesus from the dead, God showed he has power, even over death (our “last enemy”). = We can live with power. Paul says, “I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, and so, somehow, to attain to the resurrection from the dead.” (Philippians 4:10-11)
Jesus’ resurrection is good news!
Makes you want to follow him and celebrate doesn’t it?!
