Joy is something that is on offer for all Christians – all the time. It is something that God has unlocked for us to experience in all the high and lows of life. While an emotional peak of happiness is wonderful, joy is something different. Paul and Silas show us that in Acts 16, Paul reminds us of that in his letter to the Romans (Romans 14:17 and 15:13). Rick Warren explains joy like this: “Joy is the settled assurance that God is in control of all the details of my life, the quiet confidence that ultimately everything is going to be alright, and the determined choice to praise God in every situation.”
God wants joy for you. God wants you to be joyful. His Spirit gives it. His gospel unlocks it. When we surrender to God being in control of all things and have faith which truly believes he uses all things for his good and our ultimate good – which the resurrection of Christ shows us – when we really understand that at a heart level – we will find joy. No matter what you face, God is in control and using it to achieve good for you (Rom 8:28 – sometimes hard situations refine us 😉 and to bring all things under Christ (Eph 1:10). Surrender afresh. Appropriate God’s control of all things in your heart and … rejoice, he’s got this.
