Joy in God
Last Saturday morning we had a wonderful time of prayer at the Southport Campus. As we were praying, my heart was deeply encouraged. We read psalms. we sang songs, and we thanked God for who He is and what He has done.
It was in the midst of such prayer that my heart was overcome with joy. I was reminded again that this is the heart of prayer – walking with God and enjoying Him.
If you look through Psalms, its a theme you can’t ignore:
– ‘Delight yourself in the Lord’ (Psalm 37:4)
– ‘Be glad in the Lord’ (Psalm 32:11)
– ‘In your presence there is fullness of joy’ (Psalm 16:11)
– ‘The Lord is my chosen portion and my cup’ (Psalm 16:5)
Without Jesus, we have no hope of everlasting joy in God. How great it is that Jesus made it possible for you and me to not only know God, but to joyfully experience Him.
We should acknowledge that It is entirely appropriate to petition God with our needs; it demonstrates to God that we need Him and cannot function without Him.
However, I think the challenge for most of us is this: how much of your prayer life involves seeking God and enjoying who He is and what He has done?
