Prayers of Praise

Prayers of Praise

How often do you spend time praising God? Do you find it an easy habit?

If we are honest with one another, we often struggle pursuing a healthy prayer life. Yet we’re also very aware of the power and richness of regularly engaging with God in prayer. With that in mind, I thought I’d share a helpful approach to prayerful praise, an approach I have found very beneficial. It goes something like this:

Find a portion of Scripture to read and reflect on, and ask two questions
– What do these verses tell me about who God is?
– What are the implications for my life?

Last week I was struck by two verses in Psalm 62. Verses 11-12a says; ‘One thing God has spoken, two things I have heard: ‘Power belongs to you, God, and with you, Lord, is unfailing love’’.

– What do these verses tell me about who God is? They tell me that He is all powerful, but also that His love for me is unfailing.
– What are the implications of these truths for my life? If God is all powerful, then He is ruling over ever moment in my life. Also, if His love for me is unfailing, then every moment He allows to pass through my life, is for my good (even those times when I do not understand what the the good is).

My prayer of praise can be something like this: ‘Lord, I praise for your power and greatness. There is nothing that you do not rule over. Father, I thank you for your unfailing love. You are watching over every aspect of my life, you know what is best for me. Thank you for the freedom I experience as I trust in your power and love… Amen’.

May you be encouraged to praise our wonderful God this week!
