Speak Life…

Speak Life...

Our God wants us to live life abundantly. To do this He has given us many instructions in Scripture to speak this life powerfully into us. This of this Scripture “Give thanks in ALL circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus”. 1Th 5:18. The more you think about this verse the more you can see how its words can completely change you for the better.

The decision concerning the power of our words lies with us. The words that we speak reflect our hearts and our attitude. Words have power to breathe Life and encouragement or to breathe Death and discouragement.

The scripture says, “The tongue has the power of life and death” Pro 18:21a

These words of DEATH start as inner thoughts. And are destructive enough. But when we speak them out loud to other people they become bitter roots (1) that suddenly grow until over the years they become burdens that we cannot any longer carry. And sometimes Satan hears them and replays them in your mind so that they become lies that you think are truths and they become strongholds.

Consider the following examples of thoughts that start out the same but end in different places.

No one notices what I do. My church work is for the Lord.
I am alone. No-one cares. I will withdraw further. I am alone. I will ask someone to have coffee with me.
I am sick. I will stay away until someone notices I am missing. I am sick. I will call the Elders to pray for me.
The church is only interested in my money. The Lord loves a cheerful giver.
This church is not ministering to my needs. I need to find another church. God has laid an opportunity on my heart to help others grow in Him.
I don’t need to go to church regularly to be a Christian. I want to go to church to be with Gods people and to enjoy worshipping him with others.
I will leave this fellowship and find one where people are loved properly. God first loved me. I owe it to God to love other people like he does.
This church keeps getting things wrong. Give thanks in all things because this is the WILL of GOD.

Words of DEATH lead to disappointment, despair and lost love. Words of LIFE lead to being “more than conquerors” (2) and “victorious” (3).

The bottom line is that our words reflect our attitude. This attitude in turn creates a course or destination with a high degree of certainty as to whether you live a victorious or defeated life. This is because your words reflect whether your heart is centred on Jesus or yourself.

And as an aside you can be on the Words of Life with most things but not all things. And yet it can take just one word of Death issue to cause you more spiritual pain than you can bear. If one of the “Words of Death” examples above causes you to feel this might be about me then maybe you should ask God what to do about that. Perhaps you might pray “Set a guard over my mouth; keep watch over the door of my lips” Psa 141:3

“The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace.” (4) The choice is yours.

Your brother in Christ, Ian, who is still looking for ways to find more Words of LIFE.
